There are numerous companies that allow you to make your own custom art print using your own pictures. Just because you can put any picture on a custom canvas doesn't mean that the print is going to look good. There are a few tricks when it comes to choosing a custom art print that will look good on canvas.
Choose a High-Quality Image
First, you are going to want to make sure that you choose the right image. You want to choose a high-quality image to use for a canvas art print. You don't want to choose an image that is blurry or out of focus, and you don't want to choose an image that is really far away and hard to see.
Instead, choose an image that is close up and clear. Make sure that the image was taken with a high-quality camera and is easy to look at. You want to use an image that looks great and is not fuzzy or blurry at all -- you want to be able to see every detail in your mountain or ocean scene painting. Use a photo that was taken with a high-quality lens, or one that was taken by a professional if possible.
Increase the DPI
Second, you are going to want to increase the DPI of the photo. The higher the DPI, the better your photos is going to look on the canvas. The DPI is a measurement of the number of pixels per square inch. You want this number to be as high as possible so that the image still looks strong when it is stretched out over a large canvas.
You can manipulate the image once it is inside of a photo editing program. Be sure to increase the DPI of the image before you upload the image to be put on a canvas.
Framing the Canvas Yourself
If you want the image printed on canvas but you want to frame the canvas yourself, you are going to want to order a rolled canvas print. With a rolled canvas print, you will be able to stretch the canvas and use any frame that you want. A rolled canvas print is also a good idea if you want to be able to easily store the canvas.
Allowing The Photo Company to Frame the Canvas
If you decide not to frame the canvas yourself, you can allow the company that prints your photo on a canvas to frame the photo for you. If you want the company to frame the canvas, order a stretched canvas instead -- this means that the canvas has already been stretched out and is ready to go.
The best wrap for a stretched canvas is either museum wrap or gallery wrap. With the museum wrap, the picture will be on the front of the canvas and will not stretch around the frame. Blank canvas will be on the frame, around the outer edges that stretch over the sides of the frame.
With a gallery wrap, the edges of the image are wrapped around the frame and secured to the back. You lose a little bit of the image around the edges of the picture. However, this can create a really nice looking canvas frame.
If you want to get an image printed on canvas, be sure to start with a high quality image and increase the DPI of the image in a photo editing program before uploading the image to be printed on the canvas.

After thinking about what my kids needed added into their lives, it occurred to me that they could really use a little more exposure to culture. I began thinking about various ways to improve their experience, and it was really interesting to see just how much different they responded to different art forms. Within a few weeks, they had completely found artists that they loved, and it was cool to see them try to recreate it on their own.
